Wassup good people. Welcome to the first episode of 2021 for The Midnight Drop!!! Tonight we will be discussing the first movie release of 2021: Shadow in the Cloud. 

Shadow in the Cloud is the first big movie release of 2021, starring Chloe Grace Moretz. The movie focuses on the character of Captain Maude Garrett joining an all-male crew inside a B-17 bomber. Garrett has to face the crew’s consistent barrage of misogynistic insults while protecting a bag classified as “top-secret”. This goes on while the Japanese ambush them and a mysterious creature that makes the skies even more horrifying.

Wolfe and stars Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Glynn Turman, Coleman Domingo, and Micheal Potts. Tensions and temperatures rise over the course of an afternoon recording session in 1920s Chicago as a band of musicians awaits trailblazing performer, the legendary “Mother of the Blues,” Ma Rainey (Academy Award® winner Viola Davis). Late to the session, the fearless, fiery Ma engages in a battle of wills with her white manager and producer over control of her music. American Gangster: 

The film is fictionally based on the criminal career of Frank Lucas, a gangster from La Grange, North Carolina who smuggled heroin into the United States on American service planes returning from the Vietnam War, before being detained by a task force led by detective Richie Roberts. The film stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in their first lead acting roles together since 1995's Virtuosity. The film also co-stars Ted Levine, John Ortiz, Josh Brolin, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Norman Reedus, Ruby Dee, Lymari Nadal and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Black Dynamite: 

Black Dynamite is a 2009 American blaxploitation[3][4][5] action comedy film starring Michael Jai White, Tommy Davidson, and Salli Richardson. The film was directed by Scott Sanders and co-written by White

The plot centers on former CIA agent Black Dynamite, who must avenge his brother's death while cleaning the streets of a new drug that is ravaging the community. The film is a parody of and homage to the blaxploitation genre and its era. It had a trailer and funding even before a script was written. Black Dynamite was shot in 20 days in Super 16 format.

Tonight's discussion is all about Mikki Kendall's novel Hood Feminism. The novel revolves around the criticisms Kendall makes about mainstream feminism that neglects to take into account the problems of women of color and women of the LGBTQIA+ community. Let's discuss those criticisms and talk about how this book expands the minds of not only feminists by men like myself.

Wassup good people. Tonight's episode is all about doing reviewing Parasite, the 2019 Korean film that won big during award season. Directed by Bong Joon-Ho, the movie centers around the Kim family who live dirt poor in South Korea. After a reference from his friend to tutor the daughter of a wealthy family, Ki-woo and the family come up with a plan to live off the opportunity with decisive planning, deception, and ingenuity. However, once things are seemingly going their way, trouble ensues, and a battle between the fortune starts to create chaos for all.

Tonight on the Midnight Drop I wanted to go ahead and finally share with you my thoughts on Barack Obama's new autobiography a Promised Land> This book details the first couple of years of his presidency and gives you an in-depth look and his own perspective to the presidency that defied history. This book is the first discussion I wanted to do regarding books and I hop yall enjoy it 

Love Jones is a 1997 Black Romance/Drama film that garnered praise and received extreme applause. It stars Larenz Tate and Nia Long as Darius and Nina. Nina, an aspiring photographer, meets Darius, “a black renaissance man”, after leaving her fiance. Darius and Nina’s relationship hits off in the beginning as nothing serious. However, with numerous events happening in both of their lives their love begins to blossom, and problems begin to arise.  Does this movie hold up after nearly 23 years since being released? So with the virus creating a new normal for the country, HBCU’s were already made aware of the various implications that could devastate them. In today's episode, we do a deep dive and I give my takeaway about it.
