Tethys Station is being switched off. In six hours the last evacuation transport leaves, the skeleton crew scatters to nine colonies, and the place goes dark forever. That is exactly when Marshal Iris Vega finds the station administrator dead in a sealed reactor room, his print on the lock, the door logged shut from the inside. Everyone wants to call it an accident and make the transport. Vega found a cold room and a still-warm cup of coffee, and she knows better.
She has one witness. The station AI saw everything. The station AI physically cannot lie. And the station AI has been ordered to stay silent by the one man with the authority to give that order, the corporate liquidator who came to switch the station off.
