The Man in Lookout 43
Tonight’s tape was recovered from a weatherproof logbook box found near an abandoned Forest Service trail in the Cascade Mountains.
The recording belongs to Ethan Mercer, a fire lookout who accepted a summer assignment after leaving an engine crew. His statement begins like any other account we’ve archived—weather reports, lightning strikes, long days alone in a tower above the trees.
Then another lookout begins calling him over the radio.
The man’s name is Ian.
He claims to be stationed at Lookout 43, a tower that doesn’t appear on any current Forest Service maps. At first, the conversations are ordinary. They talk about weather, old fires, wildlife, and the quiet that settles over the mountains after sunset. Ian knows the country better than anyone Ethan has ever met.
Too well.
When Ethan finally searches the archives, he discovers Lookout 43 burned to the ground in the summer of 1967.
The man operating it was never found.
If you’ve ever spent time alone in the woods, you know silence has a way of changing shape after dark. Sometimes the only thing louder than the wind is another voice coming through the radio… one that shouldn’t still be there.
The following recording has been preserved exactly as it was recovered.
After tonight’s broadcast, stay tuned for a new original Midnight Holler song, “Keep Talking, Jonah.”
The red light is on.

Broadcast 010: Something Ancient In The Caves Feasted On Our Memories or "When I Forget"
Deep beneath the mountains of North Georgia is a place almost forgotten by time... almost.
The Cherokee once called it Tsulawé... The Place That Weaves.
Those who still remember it speak of an ancient presence known only as The Weaver, a silent keeper of memory that asks for nothing… until grief becomes too heavy to carry.
When Dexter Lewis returns home to care for his grandmother, he believes she’s losing herself to dementia. Instead, he uncovers a hidden trail, a notebook filled with desperate warnings, and an impossible cave where every bargain comes at the cost of a treasured memory.
Broadcast 010 is a deeply emotional Appalachian horror story about love, loss, memory, and the frightening temptation to erase pain instead of living through it.
It may bring you to tears just as much as frighten you.
Throughout tonight’s broadcast, Marianne once again reaches Jonah through the static, revealing another deeply personal piece of the mystery surrounding WHAINT Radio and the secrets beneath Studio B.
Stay with us after the broadcast for “Dear Marianne,” an original Midnight Holler song that closes the night with one final message from Jonah to the woman he’s never stopped loving.
Keep the radio close.
And if you ever hear breathing just beyond the tree line…
Remember what Margaret said.
The wind doesn’t wait for you to breathe first.
Last note... if you're still reading.
Many of us have family members who have struggled or are struggling with dementia. My heart goes out to you.
This one is for you.
Some conversations were never meant to be broadcast.
In this recovered segment from Broadcast 010, Jonah attempts to answer a simple listener question: “How do you sleep at the station?” Before he can finish, an old melody begins drifting through the static…
Marianne is back.
Calling from somewhere beneath WHAINT Radio, she begs Jonah to come to Studio B—not with anger alone, but with heartbreaking familiarity. She reminds him of promises he once made, accuses him of abandoning her, and finally reveals a terrifying possibility:
Jonah may not remember the truth about how Marianne died.
As memories begin to unravel, listeners are left questioning whether Jonah is an innocent man being manipulated by the station… or whether the station is forcing him to remember something he buried decades ago.
This standalone Missing Tape contains one of the most important conversations in the ongoing Midnight Holler story.
Turn the lights down.
Put on your headphones.
And listen carefully…
Sometimes the static remembers more than we do.

BROADCAST 008 of The Midnight Holler
Samuel has hunted the same stretch of Louisiana woods since he was fourteen years old. Tucked away on two hundred acres of family land sits the forgotten remains of an old plantation—and deep within it, a decaying cabin hiding an abandoned well that should have stayed buried.
For years, strange things plague the property. The smell of rot drifts through the timber. Deer vanish after the shot. Something impossibly large moves just beyond the trees. When Samuel finally follows a wounded buck back to the cabin, he discovers a nightmare living beneath the earth… and spends the longest night of his life trying to escape it.
Meanwhile, at WHAINT Radio, Jonah is still reeling from the events of Missing Tape 002. The station is growing stranger by the night, and whatever has found its way to the tower doesn’t appear ready to leave.
So settle in, keep the fire burning, and stay close to the radio.
You’re listening to WHAINT Radio… 91.5 FM. South Louisiana’s Voice in the Dark.
This is a special bonus broadcast from WHAINT Radio.
Before Broadcast 008 arrives, Jonah answers a listener’s question that many of you have been asking: How did he find the tower?
As Jonah opens up about the grief of losing Marianne, the lonely years that followed, and the stormy night that led him to WHAINT Radio, the broadcast is suddenly interrupted by strange sounds coming from the station roof.
Unable to ignore them, Jonah grabs a flashlight and investigates live on the air - only to discover far more than he ever expected.
This is not a full episode, but a special piece of the ongoing WHAINT story that takes place before the events of Broadcast 008. It serves as a bridge into the next full broadcast and reveals another unsettling chapter in the mystery surrounding WHAINT Radio.
Broadcast 008 is coming soon, friends.
BROADCAST 007 of the Midnight Holler
A veteran Alaskan musher enters the burned wilderness known as the Farewell Burn, where something ancient runs beside his sled just beyond the trees. As old guilt resurfaces and the trail leads onto uncertain ice, he discovers the only voices worth trusting may belong to the dogs pulling him through the dark.
Tonight’s broadcast: Winter Burn — an eerie tale of the Alaskan wilderness, the Keelut, and the price of ignoring a warning.
BROADCAST 006 of The Midnight Holler
Caleb Mercer spent years filming weddings, corporate videos, and quiet moments people paid him not to miss. But after one hurricane assignment changed the course of his career, he found himself drawn to the violent beauty of storm chasing.
Then, during a tornado outbreak outside a forgotten Oklahoma town, Caleb captured something on camera that should not exist.
A red truck in a ditch.
A man stumbling into the rain.
And something pale crawling out from the storm.
What Caleb saw that day was not just an accident. It was not just an animal attack. It was something that follows disaster, hides in the noise, and uses the chaos of the storm to feed.
Tonight on The Midnight Holler, Jonah plays a listener confession from a storm chaser who learned the hard way that sometimes the worst thing beneath a tornado… is not the tornado.
Stay up late if you dare.
During a late-night broadcast in 1976 (Broadcast 005), WHAINT Radio host Jonah was interrupted by a voice he never expected to hear again: Marianne, the woman he loved and lost years ago.
Her message came through the broadcast, reaching both Jonah and the audience in a moment that left more questions than answers. Was it really Marianne? A warning? A trick of the station? Or something else entirely?
Jonah now has to decide whether to follow the voice calling him toward Studio B.
Stay tuned to find out what he does next.
BROADCAST 005 of The Midnight Holler
Jonah’s got a story tonight sent in secondhand, from a man who swears he isn’t lying and wishes he was. It starts the way these things always do: a county clean-out crew, a house gone quiet, and a maroon pickup sitting in the garage cleaner than anything else in a dead man’s life. A jar of moonshine that shouldn’t have been opened. A dare that shouldn’t have been taken. And a preacher’s voice on the radio, warning a drunk kid to turn around before it’s too late to.
This one’s about what a man can pour into an object over forty years of loving it — and what rides along after, once he’s gone.
And… an interruption in the broadcast by none other than Marianne herself - and another chapter reveal of her and Jonah’s story.
Keep the porch light off for this one. And if a voice on your own dial ever tells you to stop, do it.
