This is part one - we go over the arc of my religious/spiritual narrative, being comfortable with detachment in spirituality, internal vs. external detachment, the ways in which I still perform aspects of my Mormon past years after having left that behind, the way that personal breakthroughs can seem to contradict previous breakthroughs but that doesn’t invalidate them, the Christian hyper-fixation on the future and the ways that can stop us from enjoying or even really experiencing the present, my refusal to plan too deeply for the future coming from a relentless optimism and the way that actually kind of echoes the faith I was taught to have in God’s plan for me, the ways I’m actually a better Christian post-Christianity than I ever was in it, developing one’s character through nurturing rather than forced efforts towards “personal growth”, the ways we’re all actually so similar in our thinking and just have different language to articulate it, issues of Christian exceptionalism, and more.
