The Miracle Files

It was supposed to be an ordinary date night.

After dropping their children off at church, Aaron and Clare Walenga headed out for their usual evening walk in Winter Garden, Florida. When a sudden downpour began, they huddled beneath an umbrella, holding hands and laughing as they made their way back to the car.

 Then, without warning, everything changed.

A lightning strike left Aaron unable to move and Clare unconscious beside him. As he desperately struggled to reach his wife, he had no idea that her heart had stopped beating—and that every passing second could mean the difference between life and death. But just moments before the strike, the couple had noticed a stranger walking through the rain. Neither could have imagined how important that seemingly insignificant encounter would become.

The plane had crashed. But the fight for survival was far from over. Deep in the mountains of Utah, Gentry Mikesell lay critically injured, trapped in the wreckage of a plane leaking fuel.

With emergency services nearly 45 miles away and time running out, his wife Betsy could only watch as a retired firefighter fought desperately to save him. But a series of extraordinary circumstances was already unfolding. A last-minute decision, a medical bag, and help arriving from an unexpected place would all play a role in what happened next.

As the family faced an uncertain future, they would discover that the crash was only the beginning of a journey filled with impossible timing, unexpected kindness, and moments they could never explain as mere coincidence.

They had twelve seconds.

Before Gentry and Betsy Mikesell climbed into a small plane with their twin sons, they were already nervous.  Neither liked flying, but they agreed to what was supposed to be a short trip over Utah’s Uinta Mountains. Minutes later, everything changed.

The engine lost power, leaving their pilot just twelve seconds to find somewhere to land.  The plane crashed near Moon Lake, leaving Gentry trapped in the wreckage and his family stranded in a remote area with no cell service.

But as Betsy desperately prayed for help, something was happening nearly a mile away - something she couldn’t possibly have known about.

Before Kari walked into the mall with her five-year-old son, she was suddenly overwhelmed by a feeling she couldn’t explain: pray for protection.

She said the prayer, parked the car, and went on with what was supposed to be an ordinary morning. But minutes later, everything changed.

In the terrifying moments that now followed, Kari would draw on a lesson she had learned decades earlier—when evil entered her own childhood home in the middle of the night.

What followed now would test everything Kari believed—and leave her with a story she would never be able to explain as coincidence.

As days passed and the search intensified, hope began to fade. Then two conservation officers noticed one tiny detail that didn’t quite make sense—and decided to follow it.

This is a remarkable story of survival, perseverance, prayer, and the clue that changed everything.

When Lauren Burns was just seven years old, her father kidnapped her and took her from Texas to Jordan.

What followed was an extraordinary international rescue mission involving three American veterans, a hijacked school bus and a dangerous escape across the Jordan River into Israel. But returning home was only the beginning of Lauren’s story.

In this deeply personal interview, Lauren shares what life looked like after the rescue—from living in hiding and fearing her father would return to the lasting “father wounds” that made it difficult to trust. She also opens up about her mother’s remarkable courage, the long process of forgiveness and the faith that helped her find healing.

Lauren’s full kidnapping and rescue story is told in Episodes 55 and 56 of The Miracle Files.

Lauren’s book, Stolen, can be found on Amazon or your favorite bookstore. Make sure to also listen to *The Redeemed Podcast*:

If Lauren’s story touched you, please like this video, subscribe and share it with someone who may need a reminder that there can be healing, joy and purpose on the other side of pain.

It should have killed her.

On an ordinary afternoon in a tiny Texas town, Donna Barbour stepped into her backyard to prepare dinner. Somewhere beyond her fence, a teenager released an arrow at a target. It missed, struck a children's slide, reversed direction, crossed three fences, passed through shrubs and tree branches, slipped between two hanging flower baskets—and struck Donna in the neck.

What happened next left doctors struggling to explain how she was still alive.

But the arrow's impossible path was only the beginning. Hidden inside Donna's body was something far more dangerous—something she had no idea was there, and something doctors might never have discovered in time if that arrow hadn't found her.

Then, years later, another discovery would make Donna question whether any of it had been an accident at all. Sometimes the thing that nearly takes your life is the very thing that saves it.
