We here on The Missing Chapter have reflected on traditions, practices, and objects of yester-year, fondly remembering days past. However, Phil Schoff and I don’t believe that all historical customs should be remembered in such graceful light. We’re happy some were discarded by the waste side throughout the duration of time. As we close on the Christmas season, and head toward the new year, many of us tend to take some time to be reflective.  We might make some resolutions that don’t usually last, but for the most part, the end of December is time to slow down from the presents and rush of the holidays.  On today’s episode of the Missing Chapter, we are going to detail one of the most fascinating stories of one of the bravest and most courageous individuals we have had the privilege of discussing.  And if her story doesn’t inspire you to look deeper into yourself and reflect, well, then I think you might need more coffee.  In fact, that reminds me, I need to top off my Missing Chapter mug before we begin.  Welcome to the Missing Chapter, everyone, let’s get started.

It’s that time of year!  The Christmas cookies, the trees, the hot chocolate, and making gingerbread houses!  This is where the fun of the holidays meets the art and engineering skills of the parents.  Our kids love making gingerbread houses, and the do-it-yourself boxes make it look so easy until you try to put it all together yourself.  About an hour later and 15 different messes of sprinkles, frosting, and shavings of gingerbread everywhere, the fine line between enjoyable Christmas activity and test of wills becomes blurred.  It’s a holiday tradition, but why?  Well, on today’s episode of the Missing Chapter, we put it all together…hopefully not like my most recent gingerbread house.  We’re highly excited, and highly caffeinated, and ready to get into the Christmas spirit on today’s episode of the Missing Chapter.

Well, it’s almost that time again for us in upstate NY.  Yup, we’ve enjoyed a warm, dry summer, and a beautiful fall, but now the temperatures are dropping, the rain and leaves are falling, and at any moment, the precipitation can turn into…snow.  I know that some of our listeners are big fans of winter time, and I am to a certain extent - basketball season, Christmas time, building snowmen with my kids - but once those seasons are over, I want to see the snow melt and the sun come out.  I will say, though, when I was  a kid, if I had a moment in the snow and wasn’t building a snowman, I was building a fort.  And for today’s episode, there were a group of men that had that same affinity for forts, only secret, underground snow forts, one of which I’m guessing you’ve never heard of until now.  So warm up by the fire, or with a hot cup of coffee because it’s time for another episode of the Missing Chapter.

It can be stressful trying to think of that perfect gift for someone you care about.
