Af: Die winter het die Karoo in 'n leë, grys skildery verander.
En: Winter had transformed the Karoo into an empty, gray painting.

Af: 'n Skerp wind het deur die ou plaashuis se gange gevloei terwyl Elmar by die venster gestaan en na die wit landskap gekyk het.
En: A sharp wind flowed through the hallways of the old farmhouse as Elmar stood by the window looking out at the white landscape.
