Melissa Farrow, Founder & CEO, GlobalFlow, LLC

Melissa's area of expertise is in the management of disordered swallowing in medically complex populations. She earned her master’s degree in Speech-language Pathology from Duquesne University in 2012. Melissa's passion for helping patients with swallowing problems has been the driving force of her career. She is board certified as a Swallowing Specialist by the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, holds certification as a Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImp) clinician, and has earned four consecutive ACE awards from ASHA for her exceptional commitment to continuing education in dysphagia.

Currently, Melissa works as a speech-language pathologist for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, where she serves those with intellectual disabilities who are medically fragile. Melissa also researches in dysphagia management in those with intellectual disabilities and has been invited to present her work regionally and nationally.  She and her husband Joe, are also the founders of Global Flow, LLC, with a mission to supply products that help those with dysphagia continue to eat, drink, and love life.  Aside from her love for all things speech, Melissa is endlessly devoted to her family. She loves hanging out with them and spending time in the great outdoors. She's also game for cuddling on the couch with a good movie, maybe a Netflix binge (or two), and scrapbooking.

Sarah Schaefer, MS, CCC-SLP, 

Sarah Schaefer is a Speech-Language Pathologist that currently works in the educational setting.  She had a previous career as an American Sign Language Interpreter, and continued her education in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  After completing her graduate program, she worked in a pediatric out-patient clinic with a variety of clients from birth to adult.  She specialized in early language development for clients with Downs Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

After working several years in the medical setting, she accepted a position as an Educational Speech-Language Pathologist in the elementary school setting where she continues working with a variety of populations. 

In addition, she has been working as an Adjunct Professor and Clinical Supervisor at St. Cloud State University’s (SCSU) Communication Sciences and Disorders. She has taught several undergraduate courses, and has supervised graduate level students to provide therapy to clients at SCSU’s Speech-Language Hearing Clinic.  At t

Introduction of Guest Speaker

Amanda Bostrom is a speech-language pathologist at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin, MN. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a BS degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and from St. Cloud State University with a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She currently works in a rural hospital, providing care to patients across the lifespan in the acute care and outpatient settings as well as in the school setting.
