Dear listener, did you know that one of the most debated topics in Christianity is whether or not women can hold certain positions of leadership in the church? It is! Paul has some seemingly clear things to say about women in the family, women in the church, and it's caused quite an uproar over the course of church history.

At youth group last night, we tackled this question. Mind you, this topic alone could span months... and we only had 40 minutes! So we barely scratched the surface of this debate. Consider this episode, then, as the "dipping your toes in the water" episode when it comes to this issue. In the next 40 minutes, you'll hear what the debate even is, the two main camps that usually join the debate, and then finally, the question we are all wondering: "who is right?"

This question was actually a two-parter that I changed into a four-parter. The original two questions were, "Why was the Bible written?" and "Why do Catholics have a different Bible?" But I added two more questions: What is the Bible? And how was it created?

Yes, we crammed a seminary level course into 30 minutes. Why? Because not many people know how we got the Bible that we have!!! I remember when I was a kid that I didn't know how to answer people when they asked me, "Where did the Bible come from? And why do Catholics and protestants have different Bibles?"

If you are a protestant, you may have some opinions on the Catholic church. After all, we did break away from them in the 1500's. There had to be a reason (or two) right?

And the truth is, you'd be right! We DID break away from the Catholic church! But why? And are the reasons why we broke away from the Catholic church dangerous? Is the salvation of all Catholics jeopardized because of their beliefs? What ARE their beliefs? And do they line up with the beliefs that need to be upheld in order to be a Christian and be saved?

Sometimes, we read stories of God doing something in the Bible, we can't help but feel like His methods were a little severe for the outcome that was desired. The flooding of the earth. The conquest of Canaan. Even Jesus' crucifixion! Sometimes, it feels like God does something intense or even crazy, for an outcome that doesn't seem to match the method(s).

In our current cultural moment, the word "justice" is thrown around a lot. ESPECIALLY in Christian circles. If you've ever been on Christian TikTok or Instagram reels, you'll most likely find people debating about how to best pursue "justice", if they believe "justice" is to be pursued AT ALL!

It can be very confusing, as is evidenced by the fact that this question was asked for our "Got Questions??" series!

Now, I don't claim to have all the answers. We could do a whole 2-month series on "justice" alone, and here we are trying to condense that into 30 minutes. There is stuff we didn't cover because time does not allow.

But let this episode at least introduce you to the concept of biblical justice! May it spur you to further reflections, deeper study, and more conversations with people you trust.

I am very excited about all of our questions, but this one holds a special place in my heart because, for many of my teenage years, I was VERY concerned that I had committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
