The treat and the Trauma of Motherhood. 

You constantly gravitate to get acknowledgement during the child’s hormonal years and that’s pretty daunting for many. You glow in your child’s praise of you and also your sense of self many times comes from this space. Most often they are dealing with their growing pangs and the easy target is the mother. It’s a seesaw of feelings.
After the children have grown up, you slowly start becoming your own person. Quite tricky!
This is when you realise that motherhood also makes you benign and resolute in your resolve.

He is the feisty activist sort you associate with those fighting for factory workers, labour laws, and against human injustice. He is fiercely honest, extremely well-read, finds refuge in cinema, art, books etc, yet remains highly aligned to his age-old ideology and political views which seem stubborn and childish to me as I grow older. 

And yet, with his progressive views (back when progress was not yet popular!), his authenticity, his words of wisdom just when I needed them most, his way of making me his entire world⁠— he has played a big part in making me who I am today. 

So today after 24 years,  I pen this story and thank my Baba, who taught me to not join the herd, to learn to swim against the current.

To me filmmaking is one of the most immersive forms of a visual and artistic medium of storytelling and the late Rituparno Ghosh is one of the finest storytellers. He has created a body of work with narratives that remain relevant even today.

His subjects were a complex amalgamation of simple human feelings, poignant pieces from great works of literature and he dared to walk the path less trodden.

As the sun sets for the night of the first sighting moon, we're praying for the situation to get better soon. But the ecstasy of celebrating this festival still remains the same. Though each of us is so far apart, in some ways we are all closer than we ever were.

The Eid of 2020 will mark a historic celebration which will be one of its kind. And as with all great festivals, it will be an opportunity for us to remember what we have in common, spread love and kindness, and decide that together, we will change everything for the better.

Eid Mubarak! 🌙

As I sat on my desk to write about Tagore, the words were getting jumbled up in my mind and my pen was failing for words to sum up the enigma of Robi Thakur. I realized it is never easy to articulate about someone who is seamlessly present everyday in my life, from the break of dawn to the settling of dusk, his words and songs are played on a loop like a divine morning prayer.
