Where are my mombosses at? Let's talk about making more money just by sending emails.    Kate Doster joins us to talk all things email marketing AND momlife. You're going to want to listen to her story about how pregnancy discrimination got her started in her own business, and now she is the main breadwinner in her family with the business she built from scratch.     Kate is the host of the Inbox Bestie Podcast, which is dangerously obsessed with helping "the little guys" – unknown bloggers and creative online business owners – carve out their slice of the interwebs by the wooing the hearts (and wallets) open of their small but mighty audiences thanks to fun email marketing and easy yes mini-offers. She believes you don't need to bleed the alphabet or be a dirty rotten spam face to write emails that jolt subscribers into taking action, gobbling up your paid offers like candy…or kale if that's their thing. • Finding a Self-Care Practice During a Traumatic Pregnancy
During an anatomy scan, Tiffany Lanier found out she had a partial placenta abruption in the middle of pregnancy, a fibroid under the placenta, and a shrinking cervix. She had the bad luck of just getting all these unrelated complications at the same time and in a waiting game.   The high risk doctor told her she probably would not carry the baby to full term, and that she ran the risk of losing her own life in the process too. (She amazingly has a healthy girl now.)   We talk about how she found her self-care practice through that traumatic pregnancy, and then getting through postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter.
    1. Focus on what you can do right now to shift your energy
    2. Examine what your days look like and make adjustments
    3. Create a practice (what activities make you feel good)
Just start, and keep moving forward.     Tiffany is a leading millennial voice in personal growth, meaningful work, and #TheFutureofLeadership. She is an entrepreneur, a renowned Inspirational Speaker and the Founder of LPLC 360 Co., a consciously-driven personal and leadership development company. Although her journey for empowering change in others started in college, after surviving a complicated pregnancy and suffering postpartum depression (all while growing her business), Tiffany hit a proverbial rock bottom. Faced with back-to-back physical, emotional and financial setbacks, Tiffany had an epiphany and realized in order to be a great mother, partner, entrepreneur, leader, and human it was time to own her shift. Her intention to rediscover who she was, her purpose, and embrace her next chapter led to personal and professional breakthroughs that have catapulted her life and career. Tiffany is now dedicated to helping others create conscious shifts in every aspect of their lives. Today, Tiffany is fueled by the motto: Live Purposefully and Lead Consciously. Whether she is speaking to college students, entrepreneurs, creatives, community leaders or executives, Tiffany challenges her audience to re-discover who they are, what they stand for, and what matters. Known as the "Queen of Clarity" her self-reflective approach helps her audience and clients overcome the obstacles holding them back from showing up more powerfully (and consciously) in the way they live, lead, and work. Tiffany's eclectic background in personal growth, business development, digital marketing, new media, and social change advocacy has made her a sought-after public speaker, trainer, and facilitator. She's presented for top businesses, brands, universities and organizations including Capital One, United Way, DeVry, and TEDx.   *Learn more about Tiffany at: www.LivewithTiffany.com   *"The Weekly Shift," A dose of Inspiration & thoughtful insight to fuel the way you Live, Lead, and Work. https://tiffanylanier.lpages.co/join-the-community/   *And find her at the handle @LivewithTiffany on IG, Twitter, and YouTube.   💖💖💖   Read all the latest on the Mom Uprising blog here.   Find us on: Facebook Instagram Twitter   Download the 5 ways to find yourself in 5 minutes or less here.

  • Being a Mom With Depression

What is it like being a mom with depression? How are we parenting with and through mental illness?

Thankfully there has been much more attention placed on Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, and the stigma has slowly been fading from being a mom with mental illness. But we still have a ways to go to truly being and feeling supported as a mom with depression.

April Ross joins me today to discuss depression, mental illness, and how she has personally coped. I also share how I have dealt with depression and anxiety in my own life.

I also just happened to be going through a round of depression as I put out this episode, and shared that in the intro. I try to be as open as I can with the struggles I go through as a mom and a person in the hopes that someone out there listening will know it isn't just you. It's me too, and its a lot of us.

Being a mom with depression is hard, but there are resources to help.

I also stronger encourage moms who are dealing with mental illness to find help.

I have used and recommend Better Help: http://momuprising.com/betterhelp

They are an online service that connects you with licensed mental health professionals for virtual help.

  • Poetry and Motherhood: Blood, Tears, and Breast Milk
Welcome back to the MomUp Show! #momup   We had a one week hiatus due to the flu hitting the base of operations here pretty hard… and by base of operations I mean the home of me… Morgan Battista… host of the MomUp Show and founder of momuprising.com.   This week is all about poetry and motherhood!   The emotions of becoming a new mom are intense. That postpartum period is overwhelming to say the least.    One incredible way of coping is to find a form of self-expression that allows your creativity to flow and the emotions to find an outlet.  Writing and journaling can be that outlet and provide some much needed relief while struggling through the learning curve of motherhood.    Jessica Carlson joins us today to share her story of becoming a new mom and using poetry to feel through the journey.    Her book Blood, Tears, and Breast Milk was just released, and it is a beautiful look at the roller coaster of becoming a new mom.   Learn more and buy the book here: bloodtearsandbreastmilk.weebly.com    Jessica Carlson is a new first-time mom and author of Blood, Tears, and Breast Milk. Wanting to be an author since elementary school, becoming a mom gave her the inspiration and push she needed to finally accomplish her goals. She transitioned from high school English teacher to work at home mom after realizing she couldn't make herself return from maternity leave. Blood, Tears, and Breast Milk was published in hopes that new moms would realized they aren't alone in the emotional journey into motherhood.   PS - if you need a serious dose of self-care and self-love, this one's for you:   You can grab your totally free mini-eBook on the 5 Ways to Find Yourself in 5 Minutes or Less by heading over here:  momuprising.com/5minutes   And of course find on social media at: facebook.com/momuprising instagram.com/momuprising pinterest.com/momuprising   #momup #momuprising #momlife

  • Tips for Blending Families

Parenting is hard. Relationships are hard. But when you start blending multiple families together there are a lot of feelings to navigate. Justine Dean discusses with me some incredible tips for blending families and how to avoid common problems with blended families. (Spoiler alert: these tips are incredible for ANY relationship, and are not just tips for blending families.)

A few themes that came up in the conversation:

    1. Communication

Be on the same page. When there are many parents and children involved all coming from different backgrounds, communicating and be on the same page is key.

    2. Avoid conflict by addressing issues head on

So many times we avoid what is bothering us until it turns from something small into something big. This tip for blending families calls for facing something that might be a little uncomfortable or awkward right now so you can avoid a larger conflict later on.

    3. Learn from your mistakes Justine and her husband had both been through relationships in the past. It's easy to stay stuck in our old patterns, and not really consider how we can take the lessons learned from one relationship to the next. But she and her husband were able to take what they had learned in previous relationships and apply them to their current relationship, which helped with blending the families together too.

    4. Think about the future and the memories you make

The decisions you are making now will have an impact down the road. So plan now for what you want your children to remember about their blended family down the road. For example, what traditions are you creating to help your blended family bond together?

and many more tips for blending families! Listen here for the entire episode.
