  • One Simple Tip To Eat Healthier & Exercise More | Minisode #110

I wanted to make a Minisode on this tip because I have felt "transactional" with life lately. "If I do X, it will get me Y." This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but, for me, it's caused my perspective to feel a bit stale. As a result, I lost some motivation and felt as though I was just going through the motions without much passion or drive. What remedied this was when I stumbled upon a commencement speech by Bill Watterson, the comic genius creator behind Calvin and Hobbes. He gave a speech to his alma mater that sparked a new outlook on how I should be approaching my fitness, health, career, and more. This Minisode is the result of what I learned. Hope you enjoy!

  • Miguel Blacutt — Understanding Yourself, Being A Good Person, & The Science of Getting Your Sh*t Together | MTFP Ep.102

Miguel is back for his second appearance on the podcast (last was Ep.53) and he absolutely blew me away with some of the things he said in this one. Miguel is currently on his path to get a PhD in clinical psychology, currently as a Master's student at Columbia University with a BSc. at McGill University in nutritional biochemistry. He's top three smartest dudes I know and an absolute top-notch guy. He's also done plenty of work in the fitness industry with conducting and interpreting the cutting-edge science in the field with leading experts. We don't cover too much fitness in this one, but it was a goldmine of knowledge nonetheless. You won't be disappointed.

In this chat, we cover (in order):

    -Miguel's background and interests

-What he's learned from his new romantic relationship

    -Radical honesty vs true vulnerability

    -Characteristics of truly intelligent people

-Understanding the "shadow" of yourself and others

-Miguel's pursuit of getting his PhD in Clinical Psychology

-His aspirations to write a book and create content around psychology and philosophy

-The psychological significance of the Bible

-What happens to your thoughts and memories when you experience betrayal

-Dante's Inferno and the Hero's Journey

-Metacognition and identifying what you truly value

-How to figure out who you are and ask yourself hard questions

    -Miguel's 3-layer process for self-reflection

-Carl Rogers "On Becoming A Person"

-What happens to your anxiety, sense of self, and well-being when you lie

-Why people turn towards drugs, sex, porn, etc. for "artificial meaning"

-Miguel's advice for getting your shit together

-Why Miguel isn't a fan of Tim Ferriss, Cal Newport, and Ryan Holiday

-Books he recommends for philosophy 101

    -And more!

  • STOP Exercising For Fat Loss: Do This Instead | Minisode #109

What do Peloton, Orangetheory, Soul Cycle, and Zumba all have in common? Besides sweaty butts, it's that they're lousy methods for losing body fat and promoting weight loss. And before the meatheads chime in in agreement—lifting weights and circuit training are even worse. In this Minisode, I hurt some feelings and crush some dreams as I explain why you CAN exercise to lose fat, but there's a much more effective and efficient way of doing so. I tell you exactly what to do instead in this one, so don't miss it. Enjoy!

  • Do You Need A Meal Plan For Fat Loss? | Minisode #108

People often think the first thing they need to get the body of their dreams is to figure out a meal plan. Or if they see a celebrity with the body they want, they'll google "The Rock's Meal Plan" and it'll be some ridiculous write-up that they definitely don't follow, but they'll try and follow it to the letter. I empathize with them because I've been there, but I'm so happy I've found a better, and easier, way to teach people how to lose fat. In this Minisode, I explain how a meal plan CAN be useful, when to use it, when to stop using it, why you may not need it at all, and exactly what to do instead. Hope it helps!

  • Nate Green — Calming The Mind, Balancing Ambition With Contentment, & Defining Success | MTFP Ep.100

To celebrate the 100th episode of the podcast, I wanted to make it special. And I couldn't think of anyone else besides Nate Green to fill that role. Nate and his work has, without a doubt, inspired me more than anyone else to create the content that I do, so it was a pleasure to have him on to catch up and preach some wisdom for you guys. For those that don't know, Nate is an author, contributor to Men’s Health magazine, and a “marketing and ideas guy” at Precision Nutrition. Interestingly enough, he reveals one more (amazing) title to this list during the middle of this episode. I'm stoked to share this conversation and I really think you guys are going to love it. Cheers to 100 episodes, my friends!

In this chat, we cover (in order):

-Why Nate is referred to as the "Banksy of Fitness"

-He reveals that he's leaving Precision Nutrition and where he's working next (Sam Harris fans: get excited)

-Nate's background and why he felt he had "no choice" but to get into fitness

-Getting mentored by Lou Schuler, starting a blog, and opening a gym (with no idea how to do it)

-How it felt to be published in magazines, work with Tim Ferriss, and get a book deal at such an early age

-Why he felt obsessed with "making it" when he was younger and if he thought it was necessary

-Why he decided to work internally, as opposed to searching for happiness through more power, fame, money, etc.

-The moment in his life where he asked "what's the point?" and allowed himself to relax

-His advice on how to balance ambition and contentment

    -Different definitions for "success"

-How do you hold yourself to a high standard without being too hard on yourself

    -Dealing with negative emotions

-His goals and intentions for 2021

-His action steps for a more peaceful experience

-Working out without music or podcasts

    -And more!

  • The Easiest Way To Transform Your Body In 2021 | Minisode #104

When I competed in my first drug-free bodybuilding competition in 2012, I did OK. I got 4th place and it left me coming back for more, hoping to improve myself and compete again in a few years. But since I wanted to make the best progress possible, I knew I couldn't do it alone. I didn't have 1) the specific knowledge around diet and exercise and 2) the accountability to go the extra mile, even when I didn't want to. This combination was holding me back from being my best, so I decided to reach out for help. When I hired someone to help me, there was one very specific thing that changed that "unlocked" the progress I was looking for. In this Minisode, I explain what that is and why it's so important for you if you have any goals in 2021.
