This week, we have audio from the last week of the 2018 legislative session. First, Gov. John Kasich spoke at an event in his last week, including a Q&A with the audience. We brought a medical student to the event to ask him how he was going to act on the two abortion bans on his desk — the abortion method ban (he signed it) and the six-week abortion ban (he vetoed it).

Then, we hear floor speeches from pro-choice legislators against the six-week abortion ban was brought up for veto override votes on December 27. We hear from Rep. Emilia Sykes, Rep. Richard Brown, Rep. Teresa Fedor, Rep. Nickie Antonio, & Rep. Tavia Galonski.

This week, Kelley, Hannah, and Gabe discuss the rally, hearings, and — SURPRISE! — lack of vote from the Ohio Senate committee hearing the bill. Without that vote today, the bill sponsors will likely be unable to pass the bill AND override a governor's veto before the end of the year.

Michelle made the trip after attending the Ohio House session where they passed the six-week abortion ban. On this week's show, we discuss what happened in the House, what could happen in the Senate, and why we need more than a meaningless veto from John Kasich.

The Ohio House passed a six-week abortion ban by a vote of 58-35.

NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland said: “Anti-abortion ideologues should not attempt to insert politics between a patient and their physician. What we’re seeing is state legislators, John Kasich, and Mike DeWine playing politics with women’s lives. This abortion ban would block patients from the care they need and deserve. If enacted, this legislation would worsen the reproductive health care crisis in our state. The decision to have an abortion is not a political decision.”
