With the Super Bowl behind us, March Madness is up next, and we are approaching a big season in the gambling industry. But new numbers reveal the dangerous impact that gaming can have on a person’s life. In fact, 80 percent of those with a gambling addiction consider suicide, while 1 in 5 actually attempts it. Just ask Joe Gagliano, the man behind one of the largest sports sandals in American history.

The Arizona State Point Shaving Operation involved dozens of casinos, bookmakers throughout the East coast and Midwest, NCAA players, and millions of dollars bet and won. Gagliano was later convicted and sent to federal prison.

“It all started with a single bet,” recalls Gagliano. “I won, and I was suddenly filled with greed, corruption, and the dark side of business. My life got very dark, and it took a long time to see the light.”
