This month, the House of Commons voted to approve the Liberal government’s capital gains tax changes. The changes will increase the inclusion rate for taxable capital gains. They are now set to take effect June 25. The federal government has maintained the changes will affect a small-number of Canadians, but not everyone is convinced. 

A new international study led by researchers from Lawson Health Research Institute will come as good news for anyone considering becoming a kidney donor. The study, which was conducted at 17 transplant centres across Canada and Australia, found there is no difference in a number of health indicators in kidney donors when compared to individuals with similar levels of baseline good health seven years after donation.

Bars and restaurants in Ontario are bracing for the impacts of a potential LCBO strike if it goes ahead in July, with one industry group saying industrial action could impact the delivery of wine and spirits for businesses still recovering from the pandemic.

The construction of the Humane Society of London and Middlesex's new home has entered the home stretch. The humane society is building a new shelter on Dundas Street East, near Highbury Avenue. The target date is November. The new location will be much larger than their current location, it will be triple the size. As they near the move-in date, they're still fundraising for their new home and are now up to 97% of their goal.

An extended heatwave continues for London, the region and most of the province. Experts say city and suburb dwellers have it much worse than their counterparts living in the countryside due to a phenomenon sometimes referred to as ‘urban heat island effect.' The Climate Atlas of Canada says the urban heat island phenomenon happens when paved surfaces amplify and trap heat far more effectively than natural ecosystems and rural areas. On a sunny day, paved surfaces can be 27 to 50 °C hotter than the air.

If you're afraid of needles, a new clinic at children's hospital gets straight to the point. Initially founded in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, a vaccination clinic has now become a permanent feature at Children's Hospital at LHSC for those with needle anxiety and other specialized needs. 

The Blyth Festival is marking 50 years in operation with The Farm Show, a production that allowed the festival to get its start back in 1974 but never actually graced the stage -- until now.
