  • FL disabled woman dropped from her Medical plan over paperwork R U next?
PHILADELPHIA — Vice President Kamala Harris’ strong debate performance has sent her campaign surging into the final weeks of the race with newfound confidence, sharper ideas about how to convince the country that former President Donald Trump is unfit for office, and a host of questions about what comes next. The Tuesday clash had long stood out as the final tent-pole moment for Harris on the campaign calendar, with the vice-presidential candidates set to face off Oct. 1. Now, her team is fully open to a second debate with Trump, though he appears noncommittal. While Harris’ top aides are thrilled with her debate showing and Trump’s inability to push consistent and coherent attacks, they are looking to tweak their strategy only around the edges. As new details emerge about the 34-year-old man from Riverside County accused of starting the now 36,500-acre Line Fire, as well as how he came to the attention of authorities. Halstenberg, who lives in Norco, nearly 50 miles away from where the Line Fire started, was arrested on Sept. 9 for arson. Investigators said they were able to use license plate readers and other means that put the 34-year-old in the vicinity of where the fire started in Highland on Sept. 5 and added that they have surveillance footage among other evidence collected during the investigation.

  • @MrKennedy and @MotherLove Chats about Thing in the News
Kamala Harris and Donald Trump's showdown in Philadelphia on Tuesday will be a major test – and opportunity – in a presidential campaign that has already been defined by a debate.Democrats and their progressive allies are fully aware of the stakes after the last head-to-head showdown led to weeks of internal party turmoil culminating in 81-year-old President Joe Biden's dramatic exit from the race. UPDATED: In the latest legal setback for Sean “Diddy” Combs, a Michigan inmate has won a $100 million default sexual-assault judgment against the embattled producer and entrepreneur, who has been slammed with multiple sexual-misconduct allegations over the past year. According to  and court documents, the award was issued Monday by a Lenawee County Circuit Court Judge following a temporary restraining order against Combs granted to Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, 51, who it describes as “Michigan inmate known for his long history of challenging the judicial system with civil lawsuits.” The lawsuit claims that Combs drugged and sexually assaulted Cardello-Smith in 1997 at a party in Detroit; the judge set out a payment schedule of $10 million per month, starting October 1.

  • What are we missing? Is it guns? Bad parenting? Another mass school shooting
Another school shooting: The deceased victims were 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn, 14-year-old Christian Angulo, and Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53. The school’s website shows the two adults were both math teachers and Aspinwall was also an assistant football coach. and the arrest of a 14-year-old suspect follow a familiar pattern of previous school shootings. After every one, there's been a tendency to ask, "How do we prevent the next one?" For years, school safety experts, and even the U.S. Secret Service, have rallied around some very clear answers. Here's what they say. It's not a good idea to arm teachers There's broad consensus that arming teachers is not a good policy. That's according to Matthew Mayer, a professor at Rutgers Graduate School of Education. He's been studying school violence since before Columbine, and he's part of a group of researchers who have published several position papers about why school shootings happen. Raise age limits for gun ownership School safety researchers support tightening age limits for gun ownership, from 18 to 21. They say 18 years old is too young to be able to buy a gun; the teenage brain is just too impulsive. And they point out that the school shooters in Parkland, Santa Fe, Newtown, Columbine and Uvalde were all under 21. What can we do?  Schools can support the social and emotional needs of students. A lot of the conversation around making schools safer has centered on hardening schools by adding police officers and metal detectors. But experts say schools should actually focus on softening to support the social and emotional needs of students.

In keeping with this continuum, a coterie of committed artists, advocates for social justice and community members gathered at Santa Ana College last week for an interactive concert, “Artists Against Hate.” Narrated by filmmaker Joyce Lee and playwright/director Maurice Kitchen, the 90-minute program, which featured dance, visual art, spoken word and music, was a celebration of the power of art as well as a call to action. Created by Brian Townsend, Publisher of Precinct Reporter, Tri-County Bulletin and Long Beach Leader, with creative leadership by Kathryn Ervin, Professor Emeritus, Cal State San Bernardino, and Maura Townsend, choreographer/dancer/educator, the concert was the second in a series of three concerts launched last November in response to California’s “Stop the Hate” and “CA vs. Hate” legislation enacted to combat rising hate incidents and crimes and to empower diverse communities.
