@ 2: McKenna Sucher, Brittany Ramos, & Zachery Hylstofte-Scott "Pirates Wear Pink"  That's what the group of philanthropists at San Pedro High School call themselves. Over the last three years, they have raised $3,000 for Susan G. Komen Los Angeles County. They do so because of a focus on helping the community and the personal loss their instructor, Sophia El Haten-Sabawi, experienced when a family member died from a rare form of breast cancer. That's what we call Being More Than Pink. komenlacounty.org @ 3  Sarah EllistonThe funny thing is that never realized she was "a difficult person," -- someone who harangued people until she got her way, threw snip fits and temper tantrums, talked over her bosses and pointed out what she thought were their misconceptions. In her family, where she felt bullied, the only way she knew how to get someone's attention and approval was to voice her opinion-and loudly! Without standing her ground, how could she do what she thought was best for herself and everyone else around her? She wasn't intentionally mean-spirited. She was just trying to do what she thought was RIGHT!  Until a kind, but firm, boss woke her up! With great compassion, and strength, her boss pointed out that that her actions had consequences. That in being "difficult," she was not only disrupting the office camaraderie and production, but impeding her own professional advancement.

@ 2 Jenny Pagliaro: As inspiring as she is talented, when this singer/songwriter, a member of Roses & Cigarettes, sings the National Anthem at the opening of Susan G. Komen Los Angeles County's Race for the Cure® on March 11, the words will hold more meaning than most people can imagine. Jenny is a breast cancer survivor. A big part of her journey is about the disease not holding her back from chasing her dreams. Be More Than Pink... Jenny definitely is. The back story: When Roses & Cigarettes released their debut album in May of 2015, singer Jenny Pagliaro and guitarist Angela Petrilli were anxious to get out into the clubs to promote it by playing the songs live.
