Our Verse: Luke 2:13
Suddenly, the angel was joined by a huge group—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
Last episode we learned that Jesus actually was born on earth. We give gifts at Christmas time to remember the greatest gift of all time. God the Father gave the world His best gift, His Son, to help our hurting world. When he grew up, Jesus would bring hope and forgiveness to all men. Let's focus in on Jesus' birth announcement that night.
Just about the time his mother Mary was giving birth, an angel appeared to some local shepherds. Luke, a New Testament writer, explains: “the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded the shepherds. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them.” and gave them an earth-shaking announcement. “Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem!” God, the Creator in flesh, was entering the world.
Suddenly they were surrounded by angels. It must've been a wild experience! Thousands, maybe millions of angels crowded around them and began to sing. Imagine the huge choir singing these words- “Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
Wisely, God the Father chose simple shepherds, men who would hear then speak, a divine message, “The Messiah, the Lord is here on earth!”
The angel said it to the shepherds, The shepherds told the local people. Then Luke, one of Jesus followers, wrote the words down and now... you get to read it on your phone! Now you and I and people around the world can join that faraway angelic chorus saying those beautiful words:
“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
