It's demanding of us that we dileneate the difference between the culture of our world and the Kingdom we now belong to as Christians. We need to learn to "think Kingdom" and "live like Jesus"... and this week's passage proves that it's much easier said than done.

What does the Christian - "resident alien" - experience have to do with the SPHERE in Las Vegas? And, HOW does the Apostle Peter suggest we go about living like aliens on this crazy planet of ours?

Sometimes, certain passages of scripture can lead to Kanye-levels of exasperation. This is one of those passages. The Apostle Peter, in an attempt to galvanize and encourage the displaced, dispersed, disheartened “Resident Aliens” spread across the diaspora reminds them that they are to “be holy”. Like… what? How? Maybe “holiness” isn’t what we think it is…

Any Cultural Anthropologist would most certainly pay attention to the parts of culture that bring joy, elation, warmth and cheer. But, you can't evaluate a people-group without leaning in to the "sore subject" of PAIN. Pain's a part of human life BEFORE Jesus... but what about after? Why should pain persist as a part of Christian Life? What is the Purpose of Pain?
