  • Trusting Your Instincts Ahead of a Major Life Change, with Joan - The MultiPod 082

"Organize your dreams around your truth, and watch them come true."

Joan Maze joins us today on The MultiPod, sharing her story of growing up as an Air Force kid, moving around the country, continuing her education and always being in pursuit of her ideal life.

Joan's journey combines academia and multipotentiality, which led her to discovering a sweet spot of working in student affairs, giving her the community experience and variety she was seeking.

However, like for so many of us, her most recent professional position ended up as an untenable situation, despite its appearance as a "dream job." Through a lot of inner work and perspective, she realized what she had to do.

As Joan tells her story of the past year, you'll be engrossed in an amazing adventure of coincidences, fortuitous timing, unexpected generosity, challenges and uncertainty, and the great excitement of the unknown.

  • A Celebration of Perseverance and the Puttyverse, with Kati - The MultiPod 081

Today we are delighted to present Kati, live from Melbourne, Australia, and one of the most active and engaged Puttypeeps.

Kati's journey began in Milan, Italy, but love brought her to Australia. Through tragedy and challenges, she has persevered and forged a self-designed career that is perfect for a multipotentialite.

Kati and Ted chat about languages, community, food and family. We also ponder some of the challenges of managing a thriving, inclusive online community that has global reach and participation.

How can the Puttyverse best incorporate people from all different time zones and corners of the world? How do we be as fair and inclusive as possible, and respond to both the volume of participation (mainly from the Americas and Europe), yet providing opportunities to the Austro/Pacific time zones (Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, China, Japan etc.)?

Being very active and engaged, and with a view from down under, Kati has some good perspective on this. Join us for a delightful conversation, alternatively in summer or winter, depending on your perspective!

  • Looking For the Little Details: Photography with Diana - The MultiPod 079

The MultiPod turns to photography, and engages in a delightful, insightful and motivational conversation with Diana Sherblom, puttypeep and photgrapher extraordinaire.

Diana and host Ted chat about what brought her to photography, how it's another great career choice for multipods and, in particular, her documentary-style approach to taking photos and doing photoshoots.

Diana's goal is to capture real, authentic moments, full of spontaneity, that demonstrate a normal day, the regular interaction between a couple or a family. This leads to a different photography experience for her subjects, but one that has tremendous value.

As she builds her photography business, Diana is also exploring further offers such as branding coaching, photo organization and online courses. If you're interested in a behind-the-scenes look at a photography entrepreneur, want to learn what it's like to be a photographer, and love taking and understanding photos yourself, this is a great episode to listen in.

  • How to Get From Point A to Point B on the Path of Life, with Allison - The MultiPod 078

Allison is a multipotentialite coach from Alaska, who focuses on the beginning stages of one's journey to figuring out the life you are meant to lead.

She helps multipods unpack their identity and understand who they really are, thus enabling them to find work that is meaningful, satisfying and a match for their goals and lifestyle.

Her own story is one of being pushed into entrepreneurship by default, despite an instinct for security and steadiness, because she realized at last that it was the best, if not only, way to make the most of her skills, interest and experience, while also having the income and freedom she deserved.

However, a core component of her coaching recognizes that, for many people, a steady job and reliable employment is also just fine: the real objective is to find confidence within yourself, embrace who you are, identify your needs and then get a better job through interview and negotiation.

Allison and host Ted explore these concepts and more in this relaxed, thoughtful and encouraging conversation.

  • Multipotencial in Spanish, with Vianney y Marcelo - The MultiPod 077

The MultiPod continues to build on its language exploration, with now the second episode in our series on "Multipotentiality in languages and cultures beyond the English world," following on from the German-themed episode, #67.

Today we welcome Vianney y Marcelo, from México y Argentina respectively, to share their stories on discovering the world of multipotentiality, and the Puttyverse in particular, but having to do so through a 2nd language.

We thus return to that conflict and frustration, whereupon those who are not able to function in English miss out on these opportunities, and indeed may have scarcely any awareness that such concepts even exist, if they haven't been translated into their own language.

Bit by bit, we endeavour to break down those barriers, and the Spanish Puttyverse community is leading the way for Hispanophones. Marcelo, Vianney and host Ted chat about how we can further spread the word to the Spanish-speaking world, and prelude the upcoming MultiPod Extras episode en español, our first episode in a different language!

  • Affirming Your Multipotentiality, with Angela Cotelessa PhD - The MultiPod 076

In this tremendously affirming interview, Flo talks to Angela Cotelessa, who wrote the first PhD on polymaths. Angela shares her research and data, but also her deep insight into the life and reality of polymaths, or, in our language, Puttypeep.

Her study looked at common pain points, successes and struggles, emphasizing modern day, relatable people, not the classic historical figures from one hundred years ago.

You'll be inspired by Angela herself, and her list of multiple, simultaneous jobs, "careers" even, and how matter-of-fact she juggles them.

And Flo shares his own story, talking about being "promoted" from a dynamic, stimulating job to a management and administration position for more money, and the same repetitive, drab tasks every day.

As Angela explains, "Any one job is not going to meet all your needs. But it doesn't have to be your whole life. Have a life outside of work. Let's be who we are: smart, strategic, curious, brave. Let's be human."

  • Offer and Receive: How To Be Circular, with Paul - The MultiPod 075

Paul Sockett is with us on The MultiPod today: actor, performer, improviser, hugger, traveller and storyteller. Citizen of the world and multipotentialte, navigating the exceptional changes of the past 12 months with grace and perspective.

Paul reflects on his journey to this point, and the lessons he continues to learn about identity, control, safety and how we interact with each other. How we are allowed to choose the words we use, and define what those words mean to us.

We talk about effective storytelling. You don't have to tell another person's story for them, and that is freeing. Practice being graceful, practice understanding a difficult feeling, not because it's good or bad, but just difficult. Get familiar with the unfamiliar.

"We're all trying to perform a show that we have not rehearsed," says Paul. What if there is no big conclusion, no performance or deadline? If life is lived in preparation for something, but that something can never come; what if the preparation itself is the performance?

Join us for an insightful, thought-provoking and meaningful conversation, that takes place very much in the present.

  • The Beauty of Darkness - The MultiPod 074

The MultiPod takes you on an adventure to northern Sweden, to the city of Skellefteå, overlooking the Gulf of Bothnia. The city lies at 64° latitude, similar to Iceland, Baffin Island and the northern reaches of Canada. It thus has very short days in the winter, and very long ones in the summer.

Co-host Flo had the opportunity to visit this extraordinary place at the end of December, 2020, a chance to explore not just a different culture and lifestyle but to understand the meaning of "darkness."

He went in tempered by common stereotypes surrounding "cold," "the north," "snow" and, most of all, "the dark."

Yet he emerged with a wondrous sense of warmth, community and perspective on life in "the south," questioning where our society places its priorities and values.

Listen in and be immersed in the journey. Perhaps the "Northern Mindset" could be the salvation to our post-pandemic recovery.
