Welcome back to The MultiPod!
It’s been a while, and for starters, thank you to everyone who’s listening, who has still discovered our show and even gone through some of the back catalogue over the past few weeks.
It’s been two and a half years, a good chunk of time for any multipotentialite, and enough time to really measure our commitment to producing this thing. We set out to publish an episode every two weeks on average, and aside from some summer lulls the past two years have succeeded.
But whenever we come back from a summer break, it’s a chance to think about where to go from here. Should we keep going? Does our show provide some value and entertainment for the community?
All in all, it seems to be an apt time to take a good assessment of this show, its future, and our commitment to it. We’re calling it The MultiPod 2.0, and are looking forward to a good, solid dose of energy and enthusiasm. It’s nice to be back.
It's a big moment for The MultiPod, after 2 1/2 years of recording this show, we have for the first time sat down together as co-hosts to record a MultiPod episode, live and in person.
Vanessa and her husband Taylor were visiting family in Ottawa, where Ted lives, so naturally he invited them over to both A), meet in person, at last!, and B), blow the dust off the ol' portable recorder, plug in the microphones and sit around the table on the back deck to reflect on the moment and get it all on digital tape.
The early days of podcasting were known for folks essentially sitting around on their couch, riffing on a topic, and evolving it into a show and target audience.
We simply did it the opposite way!, with co-hosts from around the world, our theme of exploring multipotentiality clear from the outset, and our wonderful, built-in audience waiting for us, courtesy of The Puttytribe.
In September of 2019, friend of the pod Doug Walker recorded on-site the sounds and snippets of the Everything Conference, our first live experiment here at The MultiPod. Today, we build on that and enjoy a wonderful and somewhat surreal moment for this close-knit yet physically dispersed community.
Taylor, Vanessa and Ted reflect on the differences between online and in-person relationships, our own experiences of meeting people in person after first knowing them online, and then take the opportunity to chat about the experience of the partner to a multipotentialite, and the compromise and support that comes with our many career changes, which brings us to the inevitable discussion about jobs and work, and the question, "Do we always need to monetize everything we do?"
To really get in the moment, grab a can of your favourite carbonated beverage, throw on some headphones and add your own background sound effects of birds chirping and children playing, as you join us for this very special episode of The MultiPod.
It's summer, 2020, we all need a break from COVID-related news and info, and The MultiPod is here to help.
We've decided to start taking a look at the broader picture of multipotentiality, and figure out how we can expand our understanding of the concept, and who we can profile to give us that broader perspective.
To that end, today's episode is the first in a series of biographies of influential figures, who you likely won't be surprised to learn were indeed multipotentialites themselves.

Nicola Tesla and Howard Hughes are our focus today: very influential figures on the everyday world and popular culture in their day, with legacies that continue decades later.
Join us to learn about their backstory, their career evolution as multipods, and how their journeys remain relevant.
Then, we link these lives to the modern-day lives of our own Puttytribe multipotentialites who, in their own way, follow in the footsteps of these illustrious predecessors.
Thriving multipotentialite Flo Stummer joins us today from Austria, fresh from discovering and joining the Puttytribe just a few weeks ago. His journey has taken him from his native land to the UK, United States, and all around Europe, with a particular fascination for Sweden. It's not so much about travel however, but following his nose, staying true to himself and not going down any pre-determined paths.
Along the way Flo has learned some valuable lessons in planning, expectations, making the most of failures and most of all the importance of good, clear communication.
Through a combination of business and academic life, Flo helps us explore the definition and meaning of "success," and sets us up to be prepared and confident in our new endeavours.
And, we here at The MultiPod (and the Puttytribe in general!) stand to benefit from this as well as Flo is keen to expand the scope and efforts of our little show, and help us reach out to the wider world to get more insights and perspectives on multipotentiality.
The ideas are in their infancy, but stay tuned as we get some plans together for the near future!
Our guest today, Mary from Gabriola Island in British Columbia, is an inspiration for a life well-lived as a multipotentialite. From education to permaculture gardening, sailing to learning to play the bodhran, Mary has embraced the winding path of adventure and discovery, a journey that shows no signs of slowing down.
We profile in particular her experience in the most recent "Yes You May" activity, an annual tradition in the Puttytribe where participants give themselves the permission to choose something they want to work on, plan, and focus on accomplishing a goal within a short-ish amount of time, yet long enough to make it worthwhile.
Join us for a light-hearted, wide-ranging, motivating and inspiring conversation about all the things you can accomplish when you put your mind to them. With a handy scheduler/planner to help you out!
Our guest today is, like any multipotentialite, full of talents, ideas, dreams and motivations. However, she has also been through the type of experience that we usually only observe from a distance, involving celebrities and strangers, the kind of thing we would usually say, "It'll never happen to me."
Well, for Kylie it did: a workplace conflict that was dragged out into the local media, and she was publicly fired. She faced criticism, threats and character attacks, which she was unable to respond to or share her side of the story; the kind of public degredation you would never want to go through.
Understandably, this had an impact on her mental health as well. Ironically however, the pandemic and subsequent lockdown has helped her find some comfort and optimism again.
Kylie is here to to share some insight into what this kind of trauma feels like, and how to summon the courage to believe in and have faith in who you are. We all seek validation from different sources, but at the end of the day it has to start with yourself.
And we spend some time learning about her diverse projects, from podcasting to writing, web design and especially music. Kylie is the new co-lead of the Music group in the Puttytribe, and she shares with us some of their exciting ideas and plans.
We at The MultiPod are happy to share with you a short excerpt from Breathing Wind, the podcast on grief and loss, produced by our guest in Episode 57, Sarah Davis.
This 3 minute clip will give you a good feel for the style of engrossing storytelling of her guests and the immersive experience of hearing them share their insight.
Whether or not you have yet been touched by close, powerful grief, inevitably we all will, and the stories in this podcast will give you strength and solace when you need it most.

Our episode today addresses a delicate topic, but one particularly profound and prescient, given the current state of the world. Our focus is on grief, on coming to terms with death and dying, on witnessing our loved ones pass away, and on the complex emotional journey.
But our discussion is compounded by the fact that right now, we're not only grieving those we love, but also our own lives and comfortable routines that have been ripped away.
It's a discussion that we've had in mind for a while here on The MultiPod, but we waited for the right moment to tackle it, and the right guest to do it with.
We have that guest for you today: Sarah Davis, host of "Breathing Wind" podcast, who has taken her own experience with grief, "grief that takes your breath away," and turned it into a passionate study on what is grief, how we mourn, and how we can help others, each in their own way along their own journey.
She joins us today to share her experiences and insight, as we broach this topic head-on, complete with all three hosts of The MultiPod: Sara, Vanessa and Ted, who each add their own perspectives.
It is a peaceful conversation, and one that we hope will give you some comfort in this difficult time.
We're over a month now, for most of us, into isolation & quarantine, and it's a moment where we're both familiar with the change yet aware that we're facing a very uncertain and unclear future.
Ti0 is a "Consciousness researcher," specializing in helping people understand the nature of change, the unknown, and how to confidently navigate their own journey.
His own journey has taken him from a childhood in Mumbai, to becoming a software engineer, working for Amazon in Seattle, until discovering his true purpose through an Ayahuasca retreat in Brasil, where he now lives.
This in turn has led him to launch a research and experience centre called "The Infinite Zero," (hence his pen-name). One of their primary intentions is to clarify and make available knowledge about consciousness: merging our external influences and the innate knowledge within.
Join us to learn about Ti0's path and perspective, and how he can help you find clarity as we each deal, individually, with the massive change that is coming and that is already upon us.
MultiPod Extras is an ongoing project of The MultiPod, where the hosts test out new podcast ideas in a bonus, typically one-off format.
Members of the Puttytribe can pitch their podcast ideas too! Email [email protected] with the show that you would like to demo. The MultiPod team can help you put it all together.
Today's MultiPod Extra episode comes from Vanessa, who has launched a new travel podcast called "That's The Ticket!" with her friend, Rinat Ben Avraham. The goal is to talk about travel advice, tips and recommendations, and get an understanding for the real experience of travel.
However, during the process of planning and launching the new show, the global pandemic took off in full force, with a serious hit to the travel industry. We don't know how the industry will recover and change as a result, but in the meantime we can at least find out how it has impacted peoples' travels as they try to get home, cancel other plans, and reconsider what it means to travel, especially when it's suddenly taken away from you.
