EPISODE DESCRIPTION On a cold November evening in 2010, thirteen-year-old Yara Gambirasio left a sports center in Brembate di Sopra, northern Italy. She never made it home. Her disappearance…
triggered one of the largest searches in modern Italian criminal history. Three months later, Yara's body was discovered in an isolated field. The investigation that followed would eventually lead investigators to a mysterious DNA profile known as "Unknown 1" — and, years later, to Massimo Bossetti. Bossetti was arrested in 2014 and ultimately convicted of Yara's murder. In 2018, Italy's Supreme Court confirmed his life sentence, making the conviction final. But the story did not completely end there. Years later, Bossetti's defense continued challenging aspects of the forensic evidence and sought access to preserved clothing and biological material. In 2026, the defense requested authorization for new scientific examinations of surviving evidence. This episode follows the disappearance of Yara, the enormous investigation, the DNA trail, Bossetti's arrest, the trials, the final conviction, and the new legal developments that have once again placed the forensic evidence at the center of public attention.
