Kitty Genovese was murdered outside her Queens, New York apartment complex in 1964. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this case but not in a way you might think. Out of this tragedy a new theory would arise called "The Bystander Effect".  There is defiantly some speculation about if this theory fits this crime, but there is no doubt the bystander effect  is something that happens all across the world.
