Going on a trip alone as a young woman can be intimidating. Oftentimes, women are seen as being more vulnerable, especially when they're alone. 21-year-old Elisa Lam's parents feared that their daughter would be viewed this way and taken advantage of during her solo trip to California. Despite her parents' concerns, Elisa was determined to get away from the stress of school and take some time to herself. But when Elisa failed to check out of the infamous hotel she was staying at, The Cecil Hotel, and never contacted her parents, they decided to report her missing. There were no leads on where Elisa may have been. That was, until, police discovered surveillance footage of Elisa from inside an elevator in the hotel. Her strange behavior seemed to suggest that something far more sinister was going on. Take a DEEP DIVE into crime to find out how a trip to the West Coast turned into a cautionary tale of the risks of a mental health crisis.
