The Greek word translated “wise men” in the Bible is magos, from which we get the term “magi” (strangely, the root of the words “magic" and “magician”). Magi were usually involved in occult spiritual practices like astrology. Many theories and traditions exist concerning the identity and religion practiced by these notable persons who visited Jesus shortly after his birth. Were there three of them? Were they kings? Did the Bible prophesy that they would come? Many questions need to be answered.
