From 1886 to 1922 construction on this 24,000 square foot mansion is said to have been near constant. Today there are 10,000 windows, 2,000 doors, and 160 rooms in this house, but at one point it was 7 stories high in some places and thought to have had more than 500 rooms within. There are many rumors swirling about this house and its origins. Some say it was the work of an eccentric woman with so much money, others claim there was spiritual intervention. Some believe the ghosts of all the people who lost their lives due to her husband’s family business compelled her to keep building the labyrinth of a home that we see today; that it was the only way to avoid the horrible fate of many of those closest to her. Today we will be discussing all of the history and mystery behind Sarah Winchester’s ‘Winchester Mystery House.’
