Today we’re celebrating Edith Cavell, a British nurse who saved dozens of British, French, and Belgian soldiers during the First World War, helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium. After being charged with treason, she was put to death, but her name continues as a martyr who died honestly and for a noble purpose. Happy Birthday, Edith!
