June 12, 2025 Daniel | Faith in Exile: God’s Sovereignty and Deliverance in Babylon | Book 3 - pp 198-208
Daniel and his friends are taken into Babylonian captivity, where they remain faithful to God by refusing the king’s food and are blessed with wisdom and favor. Daniel interprets King Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams, revealing God’s control over kingdoms. When the king builds a golden statue, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow and are thrown into a fiery furnace—but God protects them. Later, Daniel interprets another dream warning Nebuchadnezzar of pride, which comes true when the king is humbled and then restored after acknowledging God’s authority.

Today , we will read the entire Book of Esther in pages 184-197 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. Esther, a Jewish woman, becomes queen of Persia without revealing her heritage. When Haman, a royal official, plots to destroy the Jews, her cousin Mordecai urges her to intercede with the king. After fasting and praying, Esther bravely reveals her Jewish identity and exposes Haman’s plot, leading to his downfall. The king issues a new decree allowing the Jews to defend themselves, and they gain victory over their enemies. The Jews celebrate their deliverance through the festival of Purim, commemorating God’s protection and Esther’s courage.

Today, we will finish our reading of The Book of Nehemiah on pages 165-183 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. Nehemiah organizes the people into families and records them in a register. Ezra reads God’s Law to everyone, and the people respond with repentance, worship, and a renewed covenant to follow God’s commands. They celebrate the Feast of Booths, confess their sins, and rededicate themselves to God. Nehemiah oversees the repopulation of Jerusalem, assigns duties for the temple, and enforces justice and worship. When he returns from Persia, he finds the people breaking their covenant again and quickly leads reforms to restore their faithfulness.

Today we will begin reading The Book of Nehemiah on pages 156-166 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. Today’s episode begins with an Introduction to the Book of Nehemiah. It is followed by a reading from the biblical text. Nehemiah, a Jewish cupbearer to the Persian king, learns that Jerusalem’s walls are in ruins and prays for help. With the king’s permission, he leads a group back to rebuild the walls. Despite constant opposition, threats, and discouragement from surrounding enemies, Nehemiah stays focused, organizes the workers, and completes the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls in just 52 days, restoring both security and hope to the people.

June 06, 2025 Ezra | Restoring the Temple and Renewing the Covenant | pp 145-155 | The Narrative Reading Bible Book 3
Today we complete our reading of The Book of Ezra with pages 145-155 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. With encouragement from the prophets Haggai and Zechariah, the Jews resumed rebuilding the temple, and it was completed under the support of King Darius. Later, Ezra the scribe arrives in Jerusalem with more exiles, carrying authority from the Persian king to teach and enforce God’s law. Ezra is heartbroken to discover that many Israelites have married foreign women and broken God’s covenant. He leads a national confession and calls the people to repent and separate from these unlawful marriages to restore faithfulness to God.

Today we begin reading Ezra on pages 136-146 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. We will begin with an introduction to the Book of Ezra and continue with the reading. In this episode, Cyrus, king of Persia, allows the Jewish exiles to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple, fulfilling God’s promise. Led by Zerubbabel and Jeshua, the people begin restoring the altar and laying the temple’s foundation, but face opposition from surrounding peoples. Work on the temple stops for a time due to resistance and official orders but eventually resumes as the people stay faithful and committed.

June 04, 2025 2 Chronicles | pp 123-135 | From Hezekiah’s Revival to Babylonian Captivity | The Narrative Reading Bible Book 3
Today we finish 2 Chronicles in pages 123-135 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. Hezekiah leads Judah in a great Passover celebration, uniting the people in worship and bringing renewal. After his death, his son Manasseh rules with extreme wickedness, but later repents and seeks God. His son Amon reigns briefly and continues in evil, while Josiah becomes king and brings major reforms, including repairing the temple and restoring worship. Despite Josiah’s faithful efforts, the people return to sin, and after his death, Judah falls deeper into idolatry. Eventually, Babylon conquers Jerusalem, destroys the temple, and takes the people into exile.

June 03, 2025 2 Chronicles | pp 112-123 | Judah’s Fall and Hezekiah’s Revival | The Narrative Reading Bible Book 3
Today , we continue reading 2 Chronicles in pages 112-123 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. Jehoiada the priest leads a successful revolt against the evil queen Athaliah and installs young Joash as king. Joash begins his reign well, restoring the temple, but later turns away from God and is killed. His successors—Amaziah, Uzziah, and Jotham—experience mixed results, with some moments of success overshadowed by pride and unfaithfulness. Then, Ahaz becomes king, leading Judah into deep idolatry and even closing the temple. Finally, Hezekiah comes to power and brings spiritual renewal, reopening the temple and calling the people back to God.

June 02, 2025 2 Chronicles | pp 100-111 | From Reform to Rebellion | The Narrative Reading Bible Book 3
Today, we continue reading 2 Chronicles in pages 100-111 of Book 3 of The Narrative Reading Bible: Providence and Perseverance. King Asa brings peace and prosperity to Judah by seeking God, but later relies on foreign help and stops trusting God. His son Jehoshaphat continues many of Asa’s reforms, trusts God during a massive enemy invasion, and helps bring peace. However, Jehoshaphat makes unwise alliances with Ahab and marries into Ahab’s family. After his death, his son Jehoram ruled harshly and led Judah into idolatry, bringing God’s judgment and conflict, which continued under Ahaziah.
