1. Togo- Benin
Alleged leader of Benin coup attempt reportedly finds refuge in Togo
The alleged leader of a failed coup attempt in Benin last week has reportedly found refuge in neighbouring Togo, according to various sources.
Beninese government officials told Reuters on Wednesday that Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigri and others allegedly involved in the coup were hiding out in Lomé 2, a neighbourhood of the Togolese capital. Jeune Afrique also reported this location.
2. Ghana – Israel
Ghana condemns 'inhumane' treatment of travellers at Israel airport
Ghana condemned what it called the "inhumane" treatment of its citizens at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, after several travellers were detained or deported since Sunday.
In a statement, Ghana’s foreign ministry said Ghanaian travellers were "deliberately targeted" and subjected to "traumatic" and "humiliating" treatment.
The ministry noted that seven citizens were detained at the airport "without justifiable cause."
3. United Nations General Assembly High Level Meeting
UN marks 10th anniversary of day of genocide prevention and commemoration
The United Nations General Assembly this week convened a high-level meeting focusing on strengthening resolve and efforts to combat genocide and other atrocities against humanity, in order to prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime, which is marked annually on 9 December.
