1. Guinea- Bissau
Post election developments and Military take over
Military officers say they have taken full control of Guinea-Bissau
Soldiers in Guinea-Bissau appeared yesterday on state television saying they have taken control of the country.
Military spokesperson, Dinis N’Tchama, said the soldiers had formed “the high military command for the restoration of order”, which would rule the country until further notice.
"To suspend, until new orders, all of the institutions of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, to suspend, until new orders, the activities of all media outlets, to immediately suspend the current electoral process, to close the land border, by sea and national airspace," he said.
2. Libya- United Nations Security Council
UN Security Council renews authorisation for inspections to enforce Libya arms embargo
The United Nations Security Council has voted to extend the authorisation for UN member states, acting either nationally or through regional organisations, to inspect ships suspected of violating the arms embargo on Libya.
The resolution approved Russia and China abstained.on Tuesday renews the permission for six months and applies to vessels located on the high seas off Libya’s coast.
The text was adopted with 13 votes in favour.
3. Kenya – Tanzania
Kenyan civil society petitions ICC to probe Tanzania poll violence
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is facing increasing international pressure as a coalition of regional and global civil society groups and legal bodies has petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate alleged crimes against humanity committed during and after the disputed October 29 presidential election.
The 82-page petition, submitted by organisations including the Madrid Bar Association and World Jurists Association, details accusations of state-sponsored murder, torture, enforced disappearances, sexual violence, and mass displacement of civilians.
4. In our historical archives, it was on this day 27 November 1950 when prominent South African academic, Dr Olive Shisana was born in the town of Pietersburg, South Africa.
She holds a BA degree which she obtained from the University of the North, South Africa. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology which she obtained from the Loyola College, in the United States of America.She went on to study at Johns Hopkins University where she obtained a Doctor of Science degree.
