1. DR Congo, Lesotho, Elections in SADC Region – SADC Council of Ministers and SADC Head of States Virtual Meeting Today

The SADC Council of Ministers convenes for its first meeting of 2025 with a comprehensive agenda focusing on assessing progress in advancing the regional integration agenda.

The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Professor Amon Murwira of Zimbabwe, will preside over the meeting on 12 and 14 March.

The agenda includes a review of the SADC Secretariat's Annual Corporate plan and the budget for the 2025/26 financial year, with a focus on funding interventions aligned with regional priorities outlined in the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020-2030).

1. Sudan – African Union Peace and Security Council

AU rejects Sudan’s parallel government, warns of threat to unity

The African Union's Peace and Security Council (PSC) has rejected Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) declaration of a parallel government, warning it threatens Sudan’s unity.

Following its meeting in Addis Ababa, the PSC urged AU members and the international community not to recognize or support any such entity.

1. Rwanda - Kigali

Experts Convene in Kigali for UNDP Conference On Tackling Africa's Governance Challenges

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) gathered experts from 35 African countries in Kigali from March 11 to 13, 2025, to discuss ways to address governance and peace-building challenges across the continent.

The conference was facilitated by the Governance and Peace-building Community of Practice (CoP) 2025, a network aimed at enhancing coherence and capacities to tackle governance and peace-building issues, enabling effective solutions to deliver results.

1. Mozambique – Maputo

Mozambique's main opposition figure questioned over post-poll demonstrations

Mozambique’s main opposition leader, Venancio Mondlane, said he was questioned for 10 hours by prosecutors on Tuesday.

He said that while he answered a slew of questions about the demonstrations that followed last October’s elections, he was never told what accusation lay behind the interrogation.

Mondlane, who claimed victory in the contested poll, added that he had been placed under judicial supervision.
