ICC Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan KC concludes visit to the DRC: Effective justice must be at the heart of our response to this crisis 

This visit underlined my commitment to further intensify the work of my Office in delivering justice and accountability in the DRC, particularly in the East. This is something we cannot do alone. It will be delivered together with the victims, civil society, affected communities, and national authorities of the DRC that I have met with in the last two days. 

 

1. South Sudan – United Nations Mission in South Sudan 

UN warns time running out to organise credible elections in South Sudan 

International delegates at a three-day forum in South Sudan have warned that time is running out to organise credible elections in the country. Formed in 2020, the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity last year delayed the holding of polls for the third time. 

Co-hosted notably by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the African Union, the forum gathered together the country’s key political, security, and civil society leaders. 

 

1. Equatorial Guinea- The Gambia

The prospect of trying former Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh has grown bigger with the plan of a tribunal supported by the regional political organization ECOWAS. But there's a snag: how to get him out of his protected exile in Equatorial Guinea? Equatoguinean lawyer Lucas Olo Fernandes explains how this country agreed to take Jammeh after his fall and what factors have prevented his extradition so far. 

 

4.Zimbabwe- Namibia  

Mnangagwa set to honour Sam Nujoma at burial 

SADC Chairman and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to arrive in Namibia on Friday to attend the burial of the country's founding father and revered liberation struggle icon, Dr. Sam Nujoma. The veteran revolutionary leader passed away at the age of 95 on February 8 in a Windhoek hospital, leaving behind a lasting legacy celebrated both in Namibia and across the region.

In our historical archives, it was tomorrow in our story 1 March 1896 when Ethiopian army under the leadership of one of Africa’s illustrious wartime heroes, chief strategists Emperor Menelik II dealt Italy with a decisive defeat.  Italy’s crushing defeat sent their colonial ambitions back 100 years and stopped their advancement into the African territory.
