DRC Military Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Corneille Nangaa as M23's grip on Goma

The military justice system of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has issued an arrest warrant for Corneille Nangaa, accusing him of failing to prevent acts of torture under his authority. Signed by Colonel Magistrate Mbuta Muntu Parfait, the warrant orders his immediate arrest and transfer to the DRC.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan is causing instability in South Sudan, where economic difficulties and political uncertainty are worsening, according to the Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) during a Security Council meeting this week.

Nicholas Haysom, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMISS, stated, “The negative impacts of the Sudan conflict are affecting South Sudan, evident in the unrest in Juba and other areas following the reported killings of South Sudanese in Wad Madani.”

An Ambitious Project Hindered by Many Obstacles

Signed on May 30, 2019, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement was intended to revolutionize trade across Africa by creating a unified market of 1.3 billion people and generating an additional $450 billion in revenue by 2035.

 However, five years later, implementation remains slow. Only 46 out of 55 countries have ratified the agreement, and the elimination of tariffs on 90% of goods is not expected until 2034.

In our historical archives, it was on this day 7th of February 1986 when Afrika and Senegal lost one of her illustrious sons and renowned scholar, Cheikh Anta Diop, an exceptional African whose singular destiny and contributions were in tune with an Afrika sometimes (promising), hopeful and sometimes despondent.

The scholar died in his sleep

The renowned scholar unfortunately did not live to achieve all his dreams for his country and the black nation. Cheikh Anta Diop died in his sleep on February 7, 1986, in Dakar at the age of 63
