1. USA - Afrika 

After the US elections results have been announced, Afrikan leaders including Bola Tinubu and Emmerson Mnangagwa congratulate Donald Trump on U.S. election victory. 

Nigeria’s Bola Tinubu also expressed his willingness to work with the newly named president, proposing that the two nations ‘'can foster economic cooperation, promote peace, and address global challenges together’’. 

Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, also offered his well wishes to Trump, and said ‘’Zimbabwe stands ready to work with you and the American people to build a better, more prosperous and more peaceful world.” 

2. Mozambique – Zimbabwe 

Extraordinary Summit of SADC to discuss Mozambique crisis in mid-November 

• Southern African Development Community will, from 16 to 20 November in Harare, discuss elections in the region, including the crisis in Mozambique. 

• At least 16 people were killed in post-election violence in Mozambique while 108 have been injured. 

3. South Sudan – Kenya  

South Sudan Salva Kirr  and Kenya President Willam Ruto  have  Advocated  for Resolution in Stalled Peace Talks,  Peace negotiations for South Sudan, previously conducted in Kenya, are set to resume. This decision follows a meeting between President Salva Kiir and Kenyan President William Ruto.  

4. . Ethiopia- BRICS Bloc 

Ethiopia is poised to be a primary beneficiary within the BRICS bloc, Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin remarked. 

Ambassador Terekhin said that Ethiopia made her voice heard by stressing that there should be a reform of the global financial system and that a place should be given to Africa in the Security Council of the United Nations. 

5. In our historical archives, it was on this day 7 November 1994 when Former MK members were dismissed from South African National Defence Force (SANDF). 

The government discharged 2,221 trainees who had gone absent without leave in October from the newly instituted South African National Defence Force (SANDF). After they were released, defence minister Johannes (Joe) Modise set midnight, 6 November, as deadline for their return.

Post-election protests in Mozambique are expected to intensify this week as the death toll rises with an additional seven people allegedly killed by security forces, says Human Rights Watch. Citizens have taken to the streets since late last month in protest against the election which saw the ruling party Frelimo extend its 49-year rule with a disputed 70.67% of the vote.

Afrika Update Report  

1. Kenya – China  

Kenya, China held bilateral talks in Nairobi, as Kenya requested China's support to join BRICS 

Top Chinese official, Li Xi, arrived in the Kenyan capital for bilateral talks this week. He was welcomed by officials, including William Ruto, at Nairobi State House. 

During talks, William Ruto pledged to strengthen ties between the two nations. "Kenya, I want to assure you, is committed to promoting this partnership across Africa and also upholding the 'One China' policy,'' Ruto said. 

2. South Afrika – United Kingdom  

South Africa, UK have signed bilateral agreements, agreed to bolster trade and defence ties 

UK foreign secretary David Lammy has signed bilateral agreements in Cape Town with his South African counterpart. The talks he held with the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola were aimed at bolstering the relationship between the two nations, which have agreed to bolster trade and defence ties.  

3. Mozambique – Maputo  

Mozambique’s outgoing President Filipe Nyusi urges an end to deadly protests against recent election results 

Filipe Nyusi said he believed the protests will only result in 'destroying the country' and its infrastructure and Mozambique's defence minister has warned that the military may be deployed to put an end to the unrest. 

4. Malawi- Lilongwe  

Amid Criticism and Controversy, Commission Begins Work on Chilima Plane Crash Inquiry 

The Commission of Inquiry into the June 10, 2024, military plane crash that claimed the life of Vice-President Saulos Chilima and eight others has officially begun its work, despite growing criticism and controversy surrounding its process. 

5. In our historical archives, it was on this day 6 November 1964 when Trade unionist and uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) activist Vuyisile Mini, was hanged for his role in the MK and anti-apartheid resistance.
