1. Egypt- German 

Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sissi welcomed his German counterpart who is on a three-day visit to the northern African country. 

It is the first visit by a German president to Egypt in almost 25 years. 

Speaking alongside President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, el-Sissi highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis Gaza, reminding the grim death toll of over 40,000 victims "the two-thirds women and children". 

 

1. Algeria – Algiers 

The two opposition candidates who ran in Algeria's presidential race have legally challenged the provisional result while harshly rebuking election officials and disputing the vote count. 

Islamist Abdellali Hassani Cherif and socialist Youcef Aouchiche filed appeals with Algeria's Constitutional Court, taking the first step required to challenge the results of the election, which incumbent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune won with a 94.7% share of the vote. 

 

1. Nigeria – Lagos 

Delegates from 30 African countries attend Nigeria AI conference 

Tech leaders, academics, policymakers, and entrepreneurs from across Africa and beyond have gathered in Nigeria to discuss the opportunities and challenges raised by the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI). 

The 2024 Pan-African AI Conference in Lagos, co-hosted by the United States, is seen as a significant step in Africa’s technological future. 

 

1. Zambia - Zimbabwe

Zambia Faces 21-Hour Power Cuts As Lake Kariba Dries Up 

Zambia and Zimbabwe are looking to diversify their energy mix as climate change linked droughts and heat make hydropower less reliable. 

Zambia is facing 21-hour power cuts from 14 September when its hydropower plant on Lake Kariba is set to be turned off due to insufficient water.
