2. Kenya- Nairobi, More than 200 protesters have been arrested in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, in ongoing protests against proposed tax hikes in a finance bill that is due to be tabled in parliament.

3. C.A.R- Sudan – UN, Activities of armed groups in the volatile Central African Republic have increased, complicating a security landscape that has seen a spillover of the conflict in neighbouring Sudan, U.N. experts warn in a new report.

4. Burundi – Bujumbura, A deadly nationwide political crackdown in the East African nation is now in the past. But the return to international favour, and benefits like development assistance that come with it, has been slow. As always, everyday citizens feel it most.

5. In our historical archives, it was on this day 19 June 1913 when The Native Land Act (No.27 of 1913) was passed to allocate only about 7% of arable land to Africans and leave the more fertile land for whites. This law incorporated territorial segregation into legislation for the first time since Union in 1910.

1. Malawi – Lilongwe, Tens of thousands of Malawians have taken part in a funeral service at the national stadium to pay tribute to the vice-president who was killed in a plane crash last week. President Lazarus Chakwera promised a full investigation into the cause of the crash and said that he had asked foreign governments to help.

2. Ukraine – South Afrika, Kenya, SA was the only African country that didn't sign the Ukraine peace communique demands in Switzerland. Kenya condemned the European Union and United States for seizure of Russian assets – but also Russia's war. Ten African countries attended the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland.

3.Zimbabwe – Harare, AT least 70 CCC members were arrested yesterday for conducting an unsanctioned gathering at a house belonging to former opposition legislator, Jameson Timba, in Harare.

4. Botswana- Gaborone, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi has put his acting skills to the test in a two-minute short film showcasing the achievements of the first five years of his administration, ahead of general elections in October 2024.

5. In our historical archives, it was on this day 18 June 1942 when former President Thabo Mbeki was born in Idutywa, Transkei, Both his parents were activists. The young Mbeki joined the ANC Youth League at the age of 14 and became active in student politics.
