The Council for the Advancement of the Constitution of South Africa (CASAC) says there has been a lack of transparency in the nomination of the new Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate. Police Minister Bheki Cele nominated Dikaledi Jennifer Ntlaseng for the position and Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police has endorsed it. CASAC Executive Director Lawson Naidoo says the committee did not have a chance to scrutinize the nomination and simply rubber stamped it. Meanwhile, the Helen Suzman Foundation has also raised concerns about the proposed appointment of the head of the police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (ipid).
