The South African Communist Party has reiterated its call for the state to do away with the tender system saying they are seedbeds of corruption and the cause of the collapse of many key state owned enterprises.

According to new regulations gazetted on Tuesday by the department of justice - any person who appears before a commission of inquiry and refuses or fails to answer questions or cooperate with the commission will be slapped with a fine or sent to jail for a period of up to a year.

The right to bury a foetus lost because of miscarriage or abortion has come under the spotlight after an East Rand woman was refused the foetus at Edenvale Hospital last month. The woman gave birth at 24 weeks and her baby died immediately after birth. A non-profit organisation fighting for rights of the foetus, wants the government to change legislation to give parents an option to bury the remains, regardless of how old the foetus is.

South African Airways' business rescue practitioners have approached the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) for financial assistance. SAA's business rescue practitioners met with UIF to seek funds to help alleviate financial challenges facing the airline SAA and its employees.
