A week ago, Auditor General Kimi Makwetu briefed members of the National Assembly on the dire financial state of five municipalities. The top four municipalities which contributed to massive irregular expenditure include the OR Tambo District Municipality, Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Matlosana Local Municipality and the City of Johannesburg.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has welcomed the call by President Cyril Ramaphosa for government to ensure that suppliers are paid within 30 days. According to the PC failure to pay suppliers has dire consequences for sustainability of Small Medium and Micro Enterprises, impacts negatively on the government’s job creation initiatives, and compromises government’s performance and service delivery.
