According to Family Life Centre, the debate on whether we should be addressing the topic of sex education within schools is not as straightforward as many people might believe. The Centre has been providing sex education including support and workshops to parents and grandparents within the different communities through their Education for Living Programme.

Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the assassination of Steve Biko. Biko inspired and guided the student resistance during the ‘70’s and he is also credited with launching the South African Students Organization (SASO) in the late 60s. However, a few months before Biko's 31st birthday back in 1977, he was tortured and killed while in police custody.

Yesterday we spoke about Mozambique having announced that they were busy processing the repatriation of hundreds of Mozambican citizens from South Africa following xenophobic attacks. Now according to media reports it appears that Zimbabwe has become the third country to announce the voluntary evacuation of some citizens from South Africa after two of their nationals died during xenophobic violence.

Crime stats: Today, the South African Police Service released the country’s crime statistics for 2018/19, showing which types of criminal activity have increased and decreased in the past year. The figures showed an increase in contact crimes such as murder, sexual offences and robbery with aggravating circumstance.

The Office of Registrar of Labour Relations says it is now illegal to embark on a strike action before conducting a secret ballot of members.
In February, the Office of Registrar of Labour Relations issued a notice in which he appealed to the trade unions, federations and employer organisations to use the transitional provisions in the amended Labour Relations Act (LRA) to effect necessary amendments to their constitutions that require that before engaging in a strike or lockout, parties must conduct a secret ballot of members.
