According to the department of health, the National Health Insurance (NHI) is a financing system that will make sure that all citizens of South Africa (and legal long-term residents) are provided with essential healthcare, regardless of their employment status and ability to make a direct monetary contribution to the NHI Fund. But not everyone agrees with this assertion I’m afraid, Dr Chris Archer for instance is of the view that the NHI model will harm the entire healthcare system.

The trial of the Pastor Timothy Omotoso and two co-accused to resumed in the High Court in Port Elizabeth today. Last week, Judge Irma Schoeman dismissed Omotoso’s application to have his trial heard in the jurisdictions where the alleged crimes took place. Schoeman said that would only prolong the trial and did not see how this would favour the accused.
