President Cyril Ramaphosa is currently in Lesotho on an official working visit. The president is the South African Development Community (SADC) facilitator on Lesotho’s reform process. The country has been faced with political instability which is threatening the existence of the coalition government. The president is expected to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between stakeholders involved in the country’s reform process.

Yesterday, the B-BBEE Commission released the annual report on the national status and trends of broad-based economic empowerment for the calendar year 2018. This year’s report shows no significant change in the levels of transformation with black ownership reflecting a decline to 25.2% black ownership from 27% in 2017 and management control still sitting at 38% for black people.

Often we hear or read about horror stories of patients being ill-treated by nurses in public health institutions. Just recently, a 45 year old woman was turned away from the Stanza Bopape Clinic in Mamelodi as the nurses allegedly told her she was too old to be pregnant and therefore a “high risk.” The woman ended up giving birth at the clinic gate on Sunday.
