According to SABRIC, combined gross card fraud losses on South African issued cards saw an 18% increase from 2017 to 2018, totalling R873 394 351, with credit card fraud increasing by 18.4% and debit card fraud increasing by 17.5%. They revealed this today, when they were releasing their annual crime stats for 2018. They said they are also concerned about some of the increases, which clearly reflect that criminals will take every opportunity to get their hands on bank customers’ money.

Earlier on today Auditor General Kimi Makwetu delivered the local government audit results for the 2017-2018 financial year and according to him, the audit environment is becoming more hostile towards auditors with increased contestation of audit findings and pushbacks whereby audit processes and the motives of audit teams were questioned. He also revealed that only 18 municipalities managed to produce quality financial statements and performance reports, as well as complied with all key legislation, thereby receiving a clean audit.

How do we get rid of the culture of cooldrinks? Experts have welcomed the arrests of six law enforcement officers last week in Mpumalanga. Six law enforcement officers, four traffic officers and two South African Police Service (SAPS) officers were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in collaboration with the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit on Friday last week.
