The president in his SONA yesterday said that he wants to halve crime in ten years’ time. He also said that he wants to increase men and women in uniform as a way of addressing the issue of crime in the country.

Greenpeace Africa has welcomed that President Cyril Ramaphosa used the SONA as a platform to recognise the country’s opportunity to be at the forefront of green growth through increasing the contribution of renewable energy to the national energy mix. However, according to the organisation, achieving this is heavily dependent on creating policy certainty through the finalisation of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), and removing artificial limits to renewable energy. Greenpeace Africa is also disappointed that the president left South Africans in the dark about how much more Eskom will cost.

In his State of the Nation of the Address (SONA) President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke about the importance of South Africa doing business with rest of the continent.

On Wednesday, the International Criminal Court appealed to Sudan's transitional authorities to hand over toppled president Omar Al Bashir and end his long-wanted arrest over atrocities committed in the western Darfur region. Two warrants from the court, issued in 2009 and 2010, are active for Al Bashir, on charges including five counts of crimes against humanity, murder, extermination, forcible transfer, torture and rape. Today the State Capture Commission of Inquiry heard a testimony from SA Express General Manager Arson Phiri. Phiri was asked to do a comparative analysis between an above-board deal between SAX and Dube Tradeport in Durban and the controversial arrangement struck between the airline and the North West government. He said that the amounts paid by the North West government to SAX were "excessive" and "overstated".
