Cape Town has been labeled the African city of opportunity in a recent research report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Cape Town ranked 24th out of all the 31 cities included in the global study and sixth out of the middle income cities category, behind Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow, Shanghai and Mexico City.
The report places Cape Town against some of the world’s leading cities that are home to a vibrant economy, a high quality of life and thriving market centers.

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba is aiming to raise about R20bn from the largest banks to redevelop 71 dilapidated buildings into affordable housing units. These buildings, according to the mayor, were either hijacked or abandoned, needed to house people at monthly rates of between R800 and R1,000. He said private sector could find ways to accommodate lower rates.

The Constitutional Court today ruled that labour brokers
were not dual employers when their clients absorb contract workers as permanent staff. It is said that the landmark ruling will change the nature of labour broking in SA.
Recent amendments to the Labour Relations Act (LRA) dictate that clients of labour brokers have to hire contractors who earn below R205,433 annually after three months. The Constitutional Court ruled that clients of labour brokers were sole employers and the language in Section 198A of the LRA was clear enough.
