European Union lawmakers have passed a landmark Asylum and Migration Pact that is aimed at managing the impact of migration in Europe. This after almost 10 years of negotiations. The reforms stipulate that people could be rejected for asylum if they can be sent to a third country deemed safe.

Cross-border crime has created a huge problem in the country mostly around vehicle theft. In an effort to deal with this problem, Police minister Bheki Cele says that South Africa and Mozambique must work together to combat the crime. Cele was speaking in Maputo during the Mozambique/South Africa bilateral meeting, saying the gathering aims to tackle challenges between the two countries. Mozambique police and the South African Police Service are both signatories to a Joint Action Plan aimed at addressing transnational crime in both countries and across the region.
