As the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial continues in the High Court in Pretoria. Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, who is representing two of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, allegedly faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, contravention of a protection order, and resisting arrest. Earlier today, the SA Human Rights Commission released its report after holding an inquiry into the 2021 July Riots in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng. In the report, the commission found that damage to the economy was R50 billion, and more than 350 people were killed. 

The report also outlined that not only were the riots orchestrated but law enforcement agencies were ill-equipped to respond. The Commission highlighted that the socio-economic factors had driven the riots. The Commission outlined their concern surrounding the role of racism in the violence that took place in Phoenix and the role of social media in the spread of misinformation during the riots. The SA Human Rights Commission and the CRL Rights Commission have released reports on their investigations into widespread looting and violence. According to the reports, the unrest was racially-driven between Blacks and Indians. The riots started in KwaZulu-Natal and spread to Gauteng. Over 300 people were killed in the violence which cost the country billions in lost revenue.

The ANC National Executive Committee has summarily suspended former President Jacob Zuma as a member of the party. The ANC NEC is currently meeting in Boksburg on Gauteng's East Rand. This follows Zuma's announcement that he will be campaigning for the newly formed, uMkhonto Wesizwe party. Zuma's suspension will only be processed by the party's National disciplinary committee after the upcoming national elections as party continues with its campaign.
