In the past 48 hours, Alfred Duma Municipality was again hit by floods. This follows massive flash floods that swept through Ladysmith on Christmas eve, killing at least 23 people. The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) in KwaZulu-Natal says emergency services, which include the South African Police Service (SAPS), traffic police, emergency services, and social partners, are on high alert, closely monitoring different areas due to the Level 2 warning issued by the South African Weather Services.

An unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was brutally murdered by community members in Makurung village for allegedly stealing a plasma television set.
