Sergeant Vusimizi Mogane has gone through vehicle tracking data at the Senzo Meyiwa trial within a trial at the High Court in Pretoria. Five men are on trial for the murder of the soccer star who was shot and killed in 2014. The defence is challenging the admissibility of confession statements that have been allegedly made by accused one and two, claiming they assaulted and tortured into signing. Mogane testified on times and routes travelled when Bongani Ntanzi’s made the alleged confession statements in June 2020. Defense lawyer Thulani Mngomezulu will begin the cross examination tomorrow when court resumes. Mgomezulu has also asked the state for tracking data from a different vehicle Mogane also drove. Today, the Judicial Conduct Tribunal held a hearing investigating the allegations that suspended judge Nana Makhubele had violated the separation of powers principle by holding an office of the Court while also serving on the interim board of the state railway agency, PRASA between October 2017 and March 2018. The hearing has been postponed to January 2024 and the basis of the postponement was the tariffs on her legal fees with the State Attorney. 

This is not the first time this tribunal has been postponed prior to her testimony (August 2023). The Chair of the Tribunal - Judge President Achmat Jappie did share his concerns on whether the suspended judge will appear in-person ahead of the next proceedings. Report into the loans issued by the Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF)

Earlier on today, Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Lebogang Maile released an investigation report into the loans offered to Nonkwelo Investments owned by Nceba Nonkwelo, Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s son in law. According to Maile, the investigation was unable to make conclusive findings whether all applicable policies, procedures and other laws and regulations were followed in approving Nonkwelo investments loan due to certain crucial documents that GPF failed to locate.
