Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer Wendell Johnathan has been accused of assaulting accused number two in the Senzo Meyiwa trial. Johnathan has been under cross-examination at the High Court in Pretoria where five men are on trial for the murder of Meyiwa who was shot  dead in 2014 in Voslorus East of Johannesburg. The Ekurhuleni metro police officer was part of the team responsible for escorting accused 1 and 2 to various locations after their arrests in 2020. The City of Cape Town has released the Pickwick site that will serve to provide social housing in the inner city. Over 1800 units will form part of the new apartment development that will be built in the suburb of Salt River and the mixed-income housing project will include 840 social rental units for families earning under R22 000 per month. The project will include on-site amenities such as a crèche, playgrounds, clubhouse, and swimming pool. 

This development would not only bridge the gap for working families to be closer to school and work. It also creates opportunities for families to have the option to buy homes within the inner city, where it was once inaccessible.
